Leah Cason is the Music Teacher at Hunt Elementary School in New Diana, where she was Teacher of the Year in 2020. In addition to choral music, Leah has created recorder and Ukulele programs on her campus, and her UIL Music Memory teams consistently win First Place awards. Leah has special skills in teaching English Language Learners and is a “Lead Teacher” on her campus, providing support and guidance for a team of fifteen teachers. She received her Bachelor’s degree from UT Tyler in 2012. One grateful parent wrote this about Leah. “My son struggles with… which makes school very challenging. He can easily be overlooked or underestimated. Mrs. Cason was different. She saw in him what others did not. She took the time to understand and encourage him …” The young man was part of her Music Memory team, on which he won First Place Overall at the UIL contest. “This achievement was life-changing for him and for us as a family.”
